Online Learning
Online Learning requires quality teaching!
Teacher-Student Relationship
The biggest challenge is building teacher-student relationships. That being said, it can be done using various tools such as Poll Everywhere, Padlet, Google Drive, and Google +.
Collaboration
Online learning requires a different form of collaboration. We practiced this during our inquiry class using Google + and Google Docs. There are various tools that allow for collaboration including email. Visit my technology page for a list of great options!
Communication
Frequent communication and timely responses are key to online learning. Many times, those enrolled in online learning courses do it for flexibility. Therefore, there work might be done in the evening, so the quicker they receive their answer, the faster they can move on to their next task.
Sequencing Instruction
This is very important to online learning because you can not go back to school the next day and change the topic for the day as you can in a face-to-face classroom.

I have taken several online classes, both in high school and university. From a student perspective, I valued the teachers quick response to emails and assignments because it allowed me to move on with my learning. I remember my first online math university class. I was able to complete all of my course work, besides the final test, a month in advance. I believe this was because our professor was prepared, organized, available, and offered various supports.
The graphic by Vicki Davis really captures the idea of quality teaching. Many of the criteria is the same as face-to-face teaching. My personal goal is to utilize online assessment tools.
