SOLE (Self Organized Learning Environments)
SOLE is not something you do once, it is a classroom choice that easily invites student-centered and personalized learning - Dawn Dust
SOLE was the focus of my school community engagement project. This shift to student-centered education “is about teachers investing in the development of the learners’ potential rather than in selecting the absolute chunks of content to pass on to students” (Costa, 2014).
Setting up a SOLE classroom requires inquiry learning and the teacher to allow students to collaborate and learn in their community. A great start is setting up seating arrangements in pods to encourage collaboration, as well as having various working areas around the room.
